BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Laura Aker, President

Originally from Michigan (ask her and she’ll show you where on her hand), Laura moved to Florida for her career five years ago.  Her passion for boating, sundresses, flip flops and the beach has kept her here.  She spends most of her spare time participating in outdoor activities including boating, softball, volleyball, golf, and SCUBA diving.  She loves meeting new people, especially those who can make her laugh, and learning new things.

DeeDee Dalton, PR Chair

DeeDee is originally from Virginia, but doesn’t own a tobacco farm. After living in Los Angeles, in a quest to live at all of the beaches in the world, South Florida was the natural next progression and she has been here for 6 years. She’s an incredible athlete and does one sit up a day and excels in darts. Hobbies include American Idol, long walks on the beach, shopping, eating, cooking, being with friends and family and tracking Bigfoot.

Born a Jersey girl, Courtney grew up in Fort Lauderdale and attended St. Thomas Aquinas H.S. (State Champs!!).  After getting a degree in International Affairs from George Washington University, she spent four more years in D.C. working for SOS-USA and shopping on M Street in Georgetown.  In 2005, Courtney moved home to FL and began working as the Special Events Coordinator for Covenant House FL.  She loves her family and friends, the movie Clueless, weekends in Los Angeles, "What Not to Wear", and big sunglasses.

Lisa Ropollo, Member-at-Large

Lisa is city girl originally from Northern Virginia, who said she'd never live in Florida but 5 years, loves it! Working hard at her many jobs including financial services, event planning, fundraising, and a running coach, she also knows how to have fun. Hobbies include reality shows, traveling, running marathons, dancing, and coin and Pez candy collecting.

Vicki Kirk, Kids Fun Chair

Born and raised on Main Street in small town South Georgia. Vicki enjoyed hobbies like mud bogging, cow tipping and tailgating. As a student at FSU, Vicki B.S.ed her way through Hospitality Administration. She actually used her degree to become a banquet manager and beer tender. But, Vicki still had higher aspirations. The natural next step in her progression was Pharmaceutical Sales. As a Diabetes and Cardiovascular Care Specialist, the promising demographics and beautiful waterways of South Florida drew her to Fort Lauderdale almost 5 years ago. Vicki quickly learned that with the promising demographics came dangerous drivers, she lives downtown and avoids Century Village when possible!

Raised in Sunny South Florida Jennifer is a total Florida Lady. When she is not working as a budget and management analyst for the Government, you can find her shopping, hanging out poolside, watching movies, relaxing at the beach and hitting up the dance floor at local establishments. Music, fashion and politics are her passion and she is always up for meeting new people and learning new things, because everyday is a school day. She also enjoys playing softball at Mills Pond Park, volunteering in the community, traveling, fast cars and cheering on the SEMINOLES and OWLS during basketball and football season!

David Laidacker, Sponsorship Chair

Born and raised in a small town in central Pennsylvania and graduated Montoursville High in 1993, David had big dreams that could not be fullfilled in a farm town so he moved to New York City.  Once in NYC, worked his way up in a small restaurant company and became a training manager for the Heinz corporation.  With that position was able to travel the county and open restaurants in over 30 different cities.  After working and traveling for 5 years, he moved to West Palm Beach, FL and decided to settle down in Fort Lauderdale where he is a Training Coordinator for Aetna Pharmacy. David enjoys cooking, live music whenever possible and going to the beach.

Ernie Varela

Raquel Moya, Member-at-Large

Raquel (not Rachel) was born in Connecticut, raised in Miami and plans to be a Floridian for life because of the sunny skies, beautiful beaches, and the fact that she doesn't like shoveling snow. She loves shopping, hanging out with friends and family, as well as meeting inspriring people that remind her not to take life for granted.
